On 24 May 2007 the 1st Edition of the NRW. CUP and 1st International Athletics Gala of Bottrop has taken part in the 2005 newly reorganized Jahnstadion in Bottrop. A number of world class athletes and participants of the World Championships 2007 in Osaka provided in 11 disciplines thrilling races and showed best performances under the eyes of the mayor Peter Noetzel and an enthusiastic audience of around 1000 spectators.

The Jamaican Sprinter Clement Campbell won the 100m and 200m Sprint with impressive 10,19 and 20,84 seconds, juniors champion Abdalaati Iguider from Morocco won the 1500m in 3:44.20 minutes and the Jamaican James Beckford impressed with a jump of 8,03 metres. The athletics Meeting set new accents in sports for the city of Bottrop and athletics in the region. Many young athletics fans from the nearby schools and clubs have attended the NRW. CUP Kids competitions and get amused in the Kids Fun Park.
